It took some time for Arne Jacobsen and Fritz Hansen to develop the Swan Chair; first editions were based on a wooden shell that was bent into shape. The leather upholstery is still done by hand, a painstaking process ensuring the leather to be stretched, glued and stitched exactly around the inner shell, leaving no folds or creases visible to the eye.
This particular chair has been newly re-upholstered in original Fritz Hansen Elegance / Sørensen leather by one of the few specialist upholsterers available in Europe. The leather feels soft and warm to the skin, and is an open type, meaning that it is porous and has not been finished with a pigment coat.
As a result, some hide imperfections remain visible which is a particular treat of this material.
The leather will slowly develop it’s own patina, meaning that this piece will only get more beautiful as it lives in your house over time.
