A beautiful B17 Bookshelf designed by Pierre Chapo in French solid elm.

The vintage B17 shelf is a highly sought after piece from the Chapo workshop; it combines ingenious design with a sculptural appearance.

French elmwood is due to the Dutch elm disease extremely rare to find these days, and recent editions are generally made of oak or imported elmwood which have a completely different appearance compared to the warm, vintage look that an aged Chapo piece provides.

Pierre Chapo’s designs have been heavily influenced by works from from the Bauhaus period and designers like le Corbusier and Charlotte Perriand. By studying his pieces certain things clearly stands out: his focus on details, balance, craftsmanship and the relatively bulky and rigid shapes used in his furniture.

Other works include the S11 Chair, the T22 Coffee Table and the R08 Sideboard: Pierre Chapo can be considered as one of the most recognized designers from the French Modernist period.
