Set of four S45 ‘Chlacc’ chairs by Pierre Chapo:

“The S45 is one of the most sculptural creations in the Chapo catalog, a design that bears not a passing resemblance to the iconic tower in the capital where it’s creator was born.” (From Pierre Chapo, Magen Gallery, page 218).

Pierre Chapo’s design have been heavily influenced by works from from the Bauhaus period and designers like le Corbusier and Charlotte Perriand. By studying his pieces one thing clearly stands out: his focus on details, craftsmanship and the relatively bulky and rigid shapes used in his furniture.

Other works include the S11 Chair, the T22 Coffee Table and the R08 Sideboard: Pierre Chapo can be considered as one of the most recognized designers from the French Modernist period.

Provenance: Purchased from the family of the original owner in Lausanne, Switzerland.

 

Condition: Good vintage condition, showing beautiful patina on the wood, small signs of use and repairs. Chairs have been cleaned and oiled with the recommended 50/50 turpentine and cooked linseed oil mix.
