Description

The Traccia (“Trace”) side or coffee table was designed by artist Méret Oppenheim in 1939, representing a birdlike animal. The foot-printed, gold-leaf covered table top is in the shape of an egg, the solid cast bronze legs are those of a bird with its distinctive large talons.

Méret Oppenheim was born in the early 20th century in Germany, in 1932, she moved to Switzerland from where she studied and developed herself as a surrealist artist.

Oppenheim is considered one of the few female artists of her generation to be recognized internationally while still being alive. Her works have been featured in several museums world-wide.

 

 

Origination: Italy, 1970s. Marked “Simon by Estel” underneath.

Condition: Vintage condition, the table top shows some signs of use as pictured.

Materials: gold-leaf, bronze, wood
